POLICE were today continuing to search the garden of a Midland house for baby remains.

They sealed off the house on Huddocks View, Pelsall, yesterday after a 29-year-old woman was arrested.

Officers were continuing to search the grounds around the semi-detached property following the woman’s arrest on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said the woman, named locally as Kelly, was helping police with inquiries.

Chief Inspector Matt Markham said: “This action follows information given to police about possible human remains being buried in the garden of the property.

“Early indications are that these remains could be foetal rather than full-term births.

“It is understood that the information relates to potentially historic incidents.

“Police have secured the property and specially-trained officers are at the scene to carry out any searches.

“Local neighbourhood teams will be in the area giving out reassurance letters to the local community to inform them of their actions.”

Residents said the arrested woman was called Kelly and had a daughter and three sons aged under 10. The youngest was believed to be six months.

A white tent and a blue tarpaulin were erected in the garden of the property and officers were making house-to-house calls in the area.

Neighbours said they were “shocked”.

Mother-of-one Kelly Price, aged 21, who has lived in the cul-de-sac for four years, said: “One minute the street was empty, then there were loads of police cars, then they brought Kelly out.

“There was a police officer who stayed here all night.”

Valerie Kendrick, 56, who has lived in the road for seven years with her husband John, said: “I just can’t believe it.”

Doug Bowkett, 42, who lives opposite the property with his partner and 21-year-old son, said: “It’s a pretty quiet and close-knit street, but I didn’t know the woman or her partner at all. It’s shocking.”
