Fundraiser Lisa's top of the Birmingham Mail Fun Run charity table

IT WAS double delight for sporty charity queen Lisa Hall – when she was named as the Birmingham Mail Fun Run’s top fundraiser for the second year running.

The 23-year-old, from Yardley, received the accolade for raising more than £600 on behalf of cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support for this year’s event.

Lisa, who raised £602, said it was the perfect tribute to her mum Sandra who she lost to ovarian cancer three years ago, at the age of just 63.

Hairdresser Lisa, who took part with her boss Antony Parsons, said she was stunned to be told she was the top fundraiser yet again.

She said: “I can’t believe I’ve managed to win the highest sponsorship raised two years in a row.

“Between us we have raised £1,215 this year.

“But luckily I managed to get my sponsorship money in before Antony and before the deadline so I bagged the prize.

“I lost my mother Sandra to ovarian cancer three years ago on May 8.

“And with the fun run being at the beginning of May, it has been the perfect tribute to her two years in a row.

“As a salon, we are a great supporter of cancer charities.

“One of the reasons for that is that we have many clients who are going through treatment at the moment.

“We even took part in the event with one of our regulars.”

Lisa has been rewarded with a three-course meal for four people at Punjabi restaurant Pushkar, in Broad Street.

Last year the 5k Mail Fun Run raised more than £70,000.

And the charity’s fundraising team is encouraging the remainder of the 1,200 runners to send in their sponsorship money as soon as they can.

This year, Macmillan fundraiders hope to raise enough money to bring the total to more than £250,000 over the event’s three years.
