Weoley Castle mum dies after falling on bus
A BIRMINGHAM mum has lost her fight for life three weeks after she was hurled down a number 18 bus when its driver slammed on the brakes.
Julie Layton, aged 37, from Weoley Castle, was travelling on the bus in Yardley Wood with her three children when the bus driver braked suddenly to avoid hitting a car.
She went flying from the back of the bus to the front and hit her head on a coin machine, sustaining severe back and neck injuries.
At first she seemed to be making good progress at the critical care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
But her stepdad, who does not wish to be named, told the Birmingham Mail she lost her battle for survival on Thursday.
“She just went from bad to worse,” he said. “She even had a pacemaker fitted.”
Today, her grieving parents paid tribute to the full time mum who had two children with disabilities.
“You couldn’t have a better daughter,” said her stepdad. “She was as good as gold.
“In fact, she was too soft for her own good.
“We will miss her so much.”
A close friend described Julie as “a wonderful person with the biggest heart”.
