BUILDING work is set to begin on a £10 million NHS health centre in “under-doctored” inner-city Birmingham.
Families are 18 months away from seeing the opening of Sparkhill Primary Care Centre, in Stratford Road.
Construction workers move in to the site on August 31 to get the three-storey complex off the ground.
It is set to increase GP services in the area, become the new home for Springfield and Oakfield surgeries.
The centre will also house nursing and dental services, health visiting, counselling, maternity clinics, foot care, physiotherapy, outpatients, substance misuse support and a visiting community paediatrician.
Dr Jacky Chambers, chair of Sparkhill Primary Care Centre Steering Group, said: “We are very pleased to have reached this important milestone and that building work can now begin.
“By offering a wide range of healthcare services closer to patients’ homes we will be able to transform healthcare provision in Sparkhill and ensure the health needs of local residents are met.” There will even be a courtyard garden to offer a peaceful oasis to patients and a basement car park.
