GRANNY Jane is ‘delighted’ after the intricate shawl she crocheted was worn by the Prime Minster’s new baby on her public debut.
Jane Fraser-Cross, fondly known as Granny Jane, used a stitch taught to her by her own grandmother for the special blanket.
She said: “My gran taught me the blackberry stitch when I learned to crochet many years ago.
“It’s a well known stitch that I thought would be perfect for a new baby girl because it is very girly and pretty.”
The 74-year-old posted the gift to the couple last Friday after Mrs Cameron gave birth to Florence Rose Endellion on August 24, a few weeks earlier than expected. Mrs Fraser-Cross described herself as a “true blue” and said she is a big fan of Mr Cameron, and Nick Clegg.
It took the voluntary shopworker more than five weeks and hours of dedication to finish the shawl.
She said: “I was absolutely delighted to hear they loved it and it made my day when I was told Florence would be wearing it for her first outing.
