Opposition to Birmingham lap dancing club proposals
City centre nightspots are opposing plans for another lap dancing venue on Broad Street in Birmingham, claiming that it could lead to prostitution, crime and disorder.
City licensing chiefs will meet next week to consider the Cyclone Club's application for a nude entertainment licence. The club wants to put on table, pole and lap dancing in its first floor bar until 6am seven days a week.
It must first overcome official objections from the Broad Street Business Improvement District, which represents local businesses, and Pubwatch, the landlords neighbourhood watch scheme.
Both claim that another strip club will encourage crime, such as prostitution and drug abuse, or at least add to the perception that such crimes are being committed.
Broad Street is covered by a special licensing policy which means that new clubs, or clubs making significant changes, have to prove that they will not add to crime and disorder in the area.
A BID spokesman said: “If the council grants licenses for additional lap dancing venues in the area it will undoubtedly lead to an increased perception of crime.
