Birmingham Royal Ballet proposal by Midland police officer

Craig Trevis proposed to girlfriend Charlotte Campbell before the opening night of Romeo and Juliet on stage at the Birmingham Hippodrome

LOVE was in the air when a Midland police officer made an arresting proposal – on stage at Birmingham Royal Ballet’s opening night of Romeo and Juliet.

Craig Trevis proposed to his dance-loving girlfriend Charlotte Campbell during the warm-up of last night’s opening show at The Hippodrome.

The 34-year-old stunned Charlotte by whisking her on a backstage tour before popping the question with the help of two BRB performers, principal dancers Robert Parker and Jenna Roberts.

Love-struck Craig, from Tamworth, also went the extra mile by using 31-year-old Charlotte’s grandmother’s engagement ring for the proposal.

He said Shakespeare’s tale of young love seemed the perfect backdrop to popping the question – even with the play’s less than happy ending.

“We have been together for six months and when you know, you just know,” Craig said.

“Charlotte loves ballet. I had planned to do something during a rehearsal, but this was the perfect opportunity.”

Charlotte, who works as a model, said: “I really had no idea. It was such a surprise, but I’m so pleased.”

Romeo and Juliet runs at the Hippodrome until October 2.
