Birmingham Mail man recalls brush with Hollywood icon Tony Curtis

WHAT struck me most about Tony Curtis was just how nice, polite and generous he was with his time.
His first visit to Birmingham was as guest of honour at an autograph collectors’ fair two years ago.
I watched as, wearing his then-trademark beret, he chatted with fans, signed their posters and posed for photographs. His eyes sparkled and he clearly revelled in the attention and recognition.
One lady went away giggling after he turned on the charm, patting his knee suggestively, while posing for a photograph.
