BAR staff at a Birmingham pub got an unexpected delivery when a baby was born in a car on their car park.

Donna O’Leary, from Billesley, was shopping in Kings Heath when her waters broke outside the Pear Tree pub at around 10.30am on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who was with her 22-month-old son Kian and was not expecting her new baby for another week, called her family for help.

Her partner, James Pitcher, aged 26, and mother, Tracey, then picked her up and drove toward Birmingham’s Women’s Hospital, but they never made it. The family had to pull in to the Red Lion, in Vicarage Road, where Tracey delivered her new granddaughter, baby Maisie, in the front seat of the car.

Donna said: “We just couldn’t make it to the hospital, we were miles away.

“I told my mum she had to stop and I needed to push. She called an ambulance but Maisie came five minutes before it arrived. The birth must have taken about five minutes in total.
