Winson Green primary school pleads for council help to repair leaking roof

CHILDREN at a Birmingham school have to put up with huge floods inside their main hall every time it rains after earmarked funds for crucial repairs were slashed by the Government.

Staff at The Foundry Primary School have to get out the buckets and mops when it pours as water cascades into the building.

Head teacher Ingrid Hines has appealed for help to patch up holes in the leaking roof.

The school in Winson Green was just months away from having essential work carried out when the cash was withdrawn.

It was set to recieve emergency government funding for the repairs, but the school was informed that the money was withdrawn following the General Election in May amid huge spending cuts.

Repairs were due be made to the roof over the school’s main hall, which has become a no-go area for pupils when it rains.

One staff member even slipped over in the hall during a heavy downpour last month.

The school’s governing body has now written to Birmingham City Council education chief, Coun Les Lawrence, calling for cash to help with repairs.

Coun Lawrence said Birmingham City Council was looking at ways to help the school, which has a budget deficit, and said that some repairs had already been attempted.
