Selly Oak teacher jailed after kissing and fondling 14-year-old

AN ENGLAND international sportsman and teacher kissed and fondled a 14-year-old girl after setting up a training session at which no-one else was present.

At Warwick Crown Court Birchfield Harriers runner Matthew Baldock, who met the girl while working as a pupil supervisor at her Birmingham school, was jailed for six months.

Former England hockey international player Baldock, 24, of Dartmouth Road, Selly Oak, who was also the child welfare officer at Bournville Hockey Club and on the Midlands youth hockey council, admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust.

Sentencing him, Judge Trevor Faber also ordered him to register as a sex offender for seven years and banned him from working on a paid or voluntary basis with children.

Prosecutor John Edwards said the girl was a year ten pupil at a Birmingham school, which cannot be named for legal reasons, where Baldock, although not a full staff member, was a supervisor and worked as an English tutor to cover staff absences.
