Popular Sutton Coldfield bodybuilder dies in crash on night out
A POPULAR bodybuilder with a ‘heart of gold’ has been killed in a two-car smash during a night out.
Scott James Bennett, aged 22, was the passenger in one of the cars when it crashed at the junction of Birmingham Road and Holland Road, near the Empire cinema, in Sutton Coldfield, in the early hours of Sunday.
Hundreds of tributes have flooded in for the former Plantsbrook School pupil, who lived at Haselor Road, Sutton Coldfield, with his father Roger and step-mother Tracy, while his mother Jane lived nearby.
Best friend Adam Simonds, a 22-year-old carpenter who lives with Scott’s 26-year-old brother John, said: “Scott went out for drinks on Saturday night but I was too tired.
“At 2.30am in the morning, his brother John and I got the call that he had passed away when he was in a friend’s car.
“It is shocking and now that he has gone, part of us all has died with him. Scott was one of the most genuine people ever to grace this earth with a heart of gold. He was the life and soul of the party, no-one could make us laugh more than him.”

Scott, who worked at the Sportsco shop in Wylde Green, was a keen bodybuilder at LA Fitness, in Erdington, and dreamed of becoming a fitness instructor.
Adam said: “He’s been my best mate since I was eight. We lived on the same road, went to the same school together, we did everything together. He only passed his driving test a year ago but had the best car out of all of us and was devoted to improving his Toyota Starlet 1.3 turbo.”
Friend Charlotte Montgomery was out with Scott an hour before the fatal accident and said: “Scott was a real gentleman, one of the best people you could wish to meet.
