Birmingham university students to join mass protest in London

HUNDREDS of Birmingham students will take to the streets of London today in a last-gasp protest at plans to treble tuition fees.
Coach loads of students from the region’s universities were due to take part in a mass march in the capital as MPs voted on proposals to increase tuition fees to up to £9,000-a-year.
They were joining thousands of other students from across the country for the rally outside Parliament, organised by the National Union of Students.
The London protest follows weeks of widespread activity across Birmingham in the run-up to the crucial vote.
Around 200 placard-waving students, union members and parents marched through Birmingham city centre yesterday.
Among those who joined in a rally outside the Bullring was dad Martin Brophy, from Great Barr.
