Jag workers' £2,500 Xmas bonuses

NEARLY 300 Jaguar workers have received early “Christmas bonuses” of £2,500 each – and the guarantee of a new job at the Castle Bromwich factory in 2011.
The vast majority of workers at the Browns Lane Veneer Manufacturing Centre in Coventry are to transfer to the Birmingham factory next year following completion of its sale to Nottingham-based Lawrence Automotive Interiors Ltd.
And they have already received transition payments of £2,500 ahead of the move to Birmingham as part of an agreement on improved terms and conditions.
The workers will also qualify for average transfer disturbance allowances of more than £3,000, to be paid in two instalments, to compensate them for their move to new locations.
Unite regional industrial organiser Des Quinn said: “At the moment, the workers are still at Coventry. The management has changed but nothing else – Jaguar still manage them on a day to day basis.
“The vast majority will go to Castle Bromwich, there may be one or two who go to Whitley. They will transfer to normal production jobs – many will replace agency workers.
“There are also about 80 who are taking early retirement and they will finish at Christmas.
