Edgbaston student kills himself after splitting with girlfriend

A STUDENT from Edgbaston split up with his girlfriend two months before he was found hanged, an inquest heard.

Aaron Myers, 22, was found dead by his ex-girlfriend in Booths Farm Road, Great Barr, on July 1.

The inquest was told he had said he wanted to kill himself every day for a year leading up to his death.

His ex-girlfriend, Laura Brooks, said: “He was very unhappy. He threatened to kill himself because we split up. He had been depressed and had been given anti depressants by the doctors.

“The day before he was found he was outside my house the whole day, phoning me, saying he wanted to talk. I told him he needed to go home.”

But he refused and sat at a bus stop, before throwing his mobile phone and keys through one of Miss Brook’s windows and telling her “I’m not going to be needing these”.

Miss Brooks later told police she was “sick of hearing him say he wanted to kill himself”.

She told the coroner at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall she couldn’t now remember him saying that he wanted to die on his actual day of death.
