Bullring shooting: Shoppers hold gun gang clue
Dec 28 2010 by Anuji Varma, Birmingham Mail

POLICE believe scores of bargain hunters may hold vital clues to a shooting and stabbing at Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre as violence erupted on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
A 19-year-old man was shot in the leg outside the entrance on Sunday at around 2.30pm, moments after another was stabbed in the face by a bottle near to the Ben Sherman shop on the first floor.
Their injuries are not life threatening and the 19-year-old has since left hospital.
Police are linking both incidents and last night made a plea to shoppers who had flocked to the Christmas sales and who may have witnessed the attacks to come forward.
A spokeswoman said: “The complex was extremely busy with shoppers and we are encouraging anyone who was there and who may have seen something to come forward.
“There was some sort of disturbance at the bottom of the escalators on the first floor where bottles were being thrown around. A few minutes later a man was shot outside the Bullring at the back of Mango.
“People might only think they have a small detail, but it could be a vital piece of information.
“We would also urge any of the young lads at the scene to come forward. Officers are currently looking at CCTV and it would be better if they contacted us.
“At the moment we are treating both of incidents as part of the same investigation.”
