Electric Light Orchestra fans boost Birmingham Children's Hospital coffers

BIRMINGHAM Children’s Hospital is set to receive a charity donation – out of the blue.

Fans of the legendary Birmingham band Electric Light Orchestra have recorded an ELO tribute album, with part of the proceeds destined for the hospital.

The enthusiastic amateurs were spurred into action after waiting for new material from the band’s main man Jeff Lynne.

The project was co-ordinated through the Internet fanpage Showdown, with members recording their own version of a favourite ELO number. Albums they chose from included Out Of The Blue and Time.

Ben Jones from Bridgend in Wales was one of those taking part. He and his teenage son, Hefin, recorded the track Night In The City.
