HE was an ancient leader for shepherds who played rustic music on his pipes and caused panic among those wandering alone through his mountains.
Now a statue of the greek god Pan in Birmingham has caused alarm among museum leaders because it has lost its head.
Pan’s statue once had pride of place in the gardens at Aston Hall.
But about six years ago vandals knocked his head off.
Now, as part of the £13 million restoration which has seen the Jacobean mansion and its grounds transformed, sculptors have been commissioned to rebuild the statue.
And they are asking Birmingham Mail readers to help by tracking down images they may have of the statue in its former glory.
Pan was carved from Portland stone in 1934 by sculptor William Boyle and placed in the west garden fountain.
