But TV presenter Gok Wan revealed that even style kings have their off days when he visited Birmingham to promote his latest Channel 4 show.

The 36-year-old, from Leicester, admitted he was once teased for looking like a Dynasty soap star.

“One day, I decided to wear head to toe beige,” he said. “I had a beige jumper, beige trousers, beige shoes.

“Everyone was calling me Stephanie Beacham!”

That’s not all. Hidden at the back of Gok’s wardrobe are homages to his secret style icons – Matt and Luke Goss from Bros. “I wore the neckerchiefs, the Grolsch bottle tops on my shoes, the lot!” he said.

The agony uncle arrived in the city for a three-day visit yesterday.

He is helping style-less Brummies smarten up their act for the fourth series of Gok’s Fashion Fix.

This series sees Gok and the team go on the road, visiting eight different cities to get an idea of the fashion demographics of the country.

“People in Birmingham are very fashion conscious,” said Gok. “They should be. The shops are amazing – there’s no excuse for anybody not to look good.
