A BIRMINGHAM primary school teacher has been allowed to continue in his profession, despite sending a string of “racist” emails to former colleagues.

Ilyas Uddin sent “offensive, bullying, racist and demeaning” messages after accessing the email accounts of teaching staff at Wyndcliffe Primary School in Bordesley Green in 2008.

He sent malicious messages from ex-colleagues’ accounts, including one in which he referred to a student teacher as a “slapper” and a “brownie”.

Mr Uddin, of Holmwood Road, Small Heath, admitted the offence and has now been given a formal reprimand after being found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct at General Teaching Council (GTC) hearing in Birmingham.

Rafaqat Ali, who represented Mr Uddin at the hearing, said the teacher’s conduct was “induced by his ill health”.

The deception came to light in 2008 when concerns were raised about an email which had been sent by a staff member who had not accessed their account during the school holidays.

An internal investigation then found a total of ten “inappropriate” emails between May 25 and 28, 2008, sent from staff accounts, including one to a junior member of staff which read: “I am tough on you because I am not fond of you brownies taking over everything.”

An email to another student teacher read: “Looked at your planning and only have one word to summarise it: s***.”
