Prolific Birmingham burglar put behind bars

A BURGLAR branded “one of Birmingham’s most prolific” house-breakers has seen his reign of misery brought to an end by police.

Clint Hewitt is now languishing behind bars after being jailed for 40 months at Birmingham Crown Court for a string of burglaries.

And in a double success for West Midlands Police, another serial burglar, Steven McGarry, was jailed for four years for his own crime spree in Birmingham and Solihull.

After claiming two scalps in the war against thieves, Det Sgt John Jacob, from Birmingham East CID, said: “This shows our dedication to catching these criminals.”

Hewitt, aged 32, of Selma Grove, Yardley Wood, admitted carrying out three burglaries last September. One on Sovereign Way, Moseley, saw him flee empty-handed after he was disturbed. He later targeted two homes on Park Road, Balsall Heath, stealing jewellery from one.

Hewitt was previously sentenced to 42 months for burglary in 2002.
