Smiths Wood mum defies docs to have her baby

A BRAVE mum risked her life to give birth to her baby after she was told she had cancer – and now she is beating the disease.

Victoria Webster thought the “whole world had ended” after she was diagnosed with blood cancer when she was five months pregnant with baby Jessica.

The 33-year-old faced the agonising dilemma of aborting the baby to start treatment, or living with cancer until after her child’s birth in a gamble that could have cost both their lives.

But Mrs Webster, a former office administrator from Smiths Wood, said she instinctively knew they would both survive and carried on with the pregnancy.

Instead of starting treatment, Mrs Webster underwent gruelling four-hour sessions on a machine to wash her blood every week until Jessica was born.

And now, more than a year later, she said she was confident she would soon beat the illness.
