AS HIS 70th birthday looms, radio broadcaster Ed Doolan has finally admitted that he’s getting older – and will broadcast on just two days per week.
He is adamant that he is not yet ready for retirement, but he is scaling back his shows on Radio WM – at the same time as launching new projects.
Ed surprised both his listeners and his own colleagues when he made the announcement at the end of his lunchtime show.
In September he will step down from his daily shows and instead only broadcast on Fridays.
But he is returning to Sunday morning by launching a new Sunday Funday show, between 8am and 11am.
Ed, who turns 70 in July, said: “I am not retiring, resigning or calling it a day, but I am certainly going to take it easier.
“I am getting a little tired.
“What people don’t know is that for the last five years I’ve had a BBC contract where I would work full-time for the first year and then reduce my workload in the second year.
