A GRANDFATHER is hoping his wife will kiss him for the first time in 14 months when he shaves off his “Uncle Albert” beard for charity.
Pensioner Des Weaver has been cultivating his silvery grey beard, which now measures an impressive seven inches, since January last year.
But Des plans to mark his 69th birthday on March 22 by letting his barber loose with the razor – to the delight of his long-suffering wife Eunice, who hates his facial furniture.
He will mark the momentous moment by collecting sponsorship and donating the cash to the British Lung Foundation and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
And Des said that, while his beard drove other women crazy, he was also hoping for the biggest treat of all – a kiss from his other half.
Des, from The Mount, Cradley Heath, deciding to stop shaving during the cold spell last year.
