THEY may not be the pampered pooches appearing at Crufts over the next few days, but Birmingham Mail readers have taken them to their hearts...
The 16 tiny, frightened puppies were dumped and left for dead in Birmingham just after Christmas.
A litter of ten was abandoned in freezing temperatures near a city canal while six others were left on a street corner in Yardley.
But thanks to an appeal in the Birmingham Mail, the 14 surviving pooches have found new homes.
Rosemary Pountain, aged 68, gave a new home to puppy Hooch.
The grandmother of three from Chelmsley Wood said: “I saw him in the Mail and I fell in love with him.
“He has found his feet and has all his toys scattered over the floor – it’s like having a new baby in the house.”
Michelle Bird, from Stechford, adopted Roxy, who was suffering from kennel cough after she arrived at Birmingham Dogs’ Home.
