A CHILD left severely brain damaged at birth due to errors by a Birmingham hospital has been awarded £7 million.

Louis Peers, from Solihull, was left with cerebral palsy as a result of mistakes made after he was born at Heartlands Hospital, the High Court heard.
The child, who is now 11 years old, was awarded a lump sum of £3 million plus annual payments to pay for the care he will need for the rest of his life, which total more than £7 million. Heart of England Foundation NHS Trust, which runs Heartlands Hospital, in Bordesley Green, admitted liability for failings in Louis’ care. It came after a six year legal battle by parents Christine and Karl Peers.
Mum-of-four Christine, a 41-year-old former secretary, said: “I feel really let down by the midwives who were supposed to take care of Louis.
“I trusted them and their mistakes are something which my son now has to live with for the rest of his life.
“We took legal action because initially the hospital tried to convince us that Louis’ condition was just one of those things. Without legal help, we would not have uncovered the medical evidence that his condition was entirely preventable,” she claimed.
“I really hope the Trust has learned lessons from the errors and that no other parent has to go through the heartache my family has suffered.”
