BIRMINGHAM-based Irish rockers, The Holy Show Band, got more than they bargained for at a boxing bash in the city centre.

The band was booked to play an Irish Boxing Legends event at the Holiday Inn on Smallbrook Queensway featuring former world champion boxers Barry McGuigan and Steve Collins.

After the 300-odd guests enjoyed a meal, there was a question and answer session with The Clones Cyclone and The Celtic Warrior.

As it concluded the band, who were setting up at the other end of the room, were addressed by McGuigan, who announced he wanted to sing with them.

He asked them if they were amenable and, if so, requested they played the Van Morrison favourite Brown Eyed Girl in the key of G.

An excited band said they would be delighted to and waited for the boxer to join them.
