TELLY golden boy Ben Shephard has revealed he started at the bottom in broadcasting – as a laundry runner for the city’s weather girls.
Former Birmingham University student Ben, now the face of Sky Sports’ football coverage and a regular on ITV’s This Morning, spent his early days in television working as a general office boy at the city’s Weather Network, which provided forecasts for the country’s ITV stations.
One of his regular tasks was to deliver the weather girls’ laundry to a dry cleaner in the side streets of Hockley and bring it back to the network’s studios in the Jewellery Quarter.
He said: “I used to fetch the dry cleaning for presenters like Charlie Neill and Emma Jesson.
“I started at the bottom but it was ideal preparation and I have very fond memories.
“The staff at the Weather Network encouraged me to continue in broadcasting when I really wanted to go into acting.
