Man battered in Wednesfield attack wakes up after four days

A MAN left unconscious after a vicious beating from a gang of thugs has woken up at hospital and is being interviewed by detectives.

The Wednesfield 34-year-old regained consciousness yesterday following the assault which took place in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim was left lying in Duke Street, near Pinfold Gardens at around 2am.

A second man – aged 37 and also from the local area – was found at the scene with minor injuries.

He was taken to New Cross Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

The two men left the Angel pub at 12.45am and walked along the High Street to Lichfield Road, and then into Duke Street. CCTV recovered shows a group of three men and two women walking the same route. It is believed that some of these attacked the victims.

Police think the victims had been dropped off at the Angel pub by a taxi and detectives have appealed for any taxi company, who delivered a fare in the Duke Street area at around the time, to contact them.

Detective Inspector Bob Bradford, investigating the incident, said: “I would urge the women to come forward and anyone who was out in that part of Wednesfield in the early hours of the morning as they could hold clues to help get to the bottom of this attack.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on it should phone Bloxwich CID on 0345 113 500 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
