AN airport sniffer dog named Hardy helped deliver his own brand of ‘woof justice’ in a crackdown that led to the seizure of dog fighting DVDs, suspected dirty cash and paedophile material.

Specialist sniffer dogs were put on the scent of contraband carried by passengers on flights into and out of Birmingham.

And the four-legged Border Agency officers – Hardy, Bella and Zippy – uncovered hidden goods that travellers were trying to sneak past the authorities.

The canine crimefighters are trained to sniff out money, drugs, tobacco and metal objects such as gold. In one case a doggy detective found a passenger boarding a flight to Istanbul was found to be carrying 4,000 US dollars and 1,000 Euros.

The cash was detained under the Proceeds of Crime Act when the man could not give a satisfactory explanation for why he was carrying such a large amount.

Meanwhile, officers were alerted to a passenger on a flight from Istanbul when one of the dogs showed an interest in his luggage.
