MORE than 300 villagers turned out to a spring fair in Water Orton in Birmingham to oppose the controversial High Speed Rail Link, known as HS2.

Organised by the Water Orton Stop HS2 Action Group, the event on Friday included stalls, competitions, games and information stands.

Taking place at Water Orton Primary School, a children’s competition to design a T-shirt was won by 11-year-old pupil Joanna Dalders.

The event was supported by North Warwickshire and Bedworth MP Dan Byles (Con). Action group chairman David Henry said the fair helped raise awareness of the impact of the proposed rail link on the village.

“There was a good response. Around 300 or 400 people came and there was the chance for them to see the Stop HS2 stand and the information we have.”
