FRIENDS and family of a much loved Birmingham bodybuilder killed in a car crash unveiled a plaque in memory of him at his gym.
Scott Bennett, 22, of Haselor Road, Sutton Coldfield, died after the car he was a passenger in collided with a black taxi at the junction of Birmingham Road and Holland Road, near the Empire cinema, in the early hours of December 5.
A plaque was put up at LA Fitness Centre, in Gravelly Lane, Erdington, yesterday after his friends and family raised money for the memorial.
Fitness fanatic Scott, a former Plantsbrook School pupil, worked at the Sportsco shop in Wylde Green and dreamt of becoming a fitness instructor.
His mum, Jane Bennett, said: “Words cannot explain what the terrible loss of Scott has done to our family.
“Myself and his dad, Roger, have been touched by everyone’s kindness and thank friends, neighbours and work colleagues for their support during this unbelievable time. Scott was dedicated to his bodybuilding, he was always getting texts and calls from friends at the gym asking for advice.
“He touched so many lives and was also well known and loved in the tennis community having been coached at David Lloyds when he was nine and received a scholarship to Edgbaston Priory Tennis Club and was selected for the Warwickshire County Tennis Club. He was also popular at Penn’s Lane Tennis Club.
She added: “Scott was saving to go on a skiing holiday this year and he was at a really good time in his life when everything was going well for him.
“Posts on Facebook said he was always happy, always positive, a top lad, a real genuine guy. Scott was a kind and gentle young man who will always be remembered by so many people.”
