MEMBERS of an environmental group are staging a campaign to bring some flower power to an inner-city area of Birmingham by going potty and planting hundreds of sunflowers.

Friends of the Earth volunteers are appealing for help with their Sunflower Planting Day on May 1 around Digbeth. Members will be planting seeds on derelict and unused patches of land to brighten up streets and create a better environment for people passing through the area.

A spokesman for Friends of the Earth said anyone wanting to join the Sunflower session should meet at The Warehouse in Digbeth on May 1.

“We are going to do a mass plant around Digbeth to coincide with International Guerilla Gardening Sunflower Day,” he said.
