ACOCKS Green schoolchildren are set to score top marks after a homework club was given a big grant.

Michael Sharman, who helps to run the 8+ Play Opportunities group at Acocks Green Christian Centre, said the £975 award will go towards running an after-school club for years three to six.

Mr Sharman said: “We get children coming here who do not get the support at home. Many of them come from backgrounds where English is a second language.

“We are absolutely delighted because we’ve really struggled. We’ve had a lot of cut backs but this money will give us the opportunity to carry on.”
