A MIDLAND grandfather who died following a hit-and-run road accident was described by his family as a “great role model”.
Motorcyclist David Rudge, from Tividale, was in collision with a black X-type Jaguar as he was out riding in Oldbury nearly two weeks ago.
The 57-year-old was taken to hospital having suffered a broken leg, however complications caused his condition to worsen and he died in hospital on Sunday, said police.
Officers are still trying to establish the full circumstances of the incident and have appealed for the car driver to come forward.
They also called on mechanics or anybody who could have seen the car, which was damaged in the collision, or the driver, to get in touch with them.
Mr Rudge, who lived in Tividale with his wife, had four children and two stepchildren. A statement from the family paid tribute to him as “an easygoing, loving husband, father and grandfather who was a great role model for his children.”
Mr Rudge was travelling along Portway Road at around 5.35am on Saturday, April 9, when his motorbike was in collision with the Jaguar. The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene, but the vehicle was seen to have significant offside wing, bumper and bonnet damage. Debris was also recovered from the scene, including a wing mirror.
Senior investigating officer Sergeant Christopher Jones said: “It could well be that the driver did not appreciate how serious the matter was at the time, but I would now urge them to contact police to help us with our investigation.
“Black X-type Jaguar’s are not particularly common and I urge garages, body repair shops, scrapyards and neighbours to contact us if they are aware of any such vehicles, with front end damage, to contact us.
“We would like to establish the full circumstances of the incident, to help the family come to terms with their very sad loss.”
