SHE wasn’t even born when Prince William’s parents walked down the aisle with the cheers of a nation ringing in their ears.
But tomorrow, Birmingham 19-year-old Ellen Brewer will be a part of history as the youngest member of the RAF involved in the Royal Wedding.
Air Force personnel will line the route between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey – with Ellen’s proud family watching the action on TV at a street party back in Brum. Sixty volunteers from the RAF were put through their drill movements on the parade square at RAF Halton in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, to prepare for their big role.
They will be joined tomorrow by 60 members of the Queen’s Colour Squadron who, as a dual operational and ceremonial unit, set the standard for pomp and ceremony.
Ellen, a senior aircraftman based at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire, said: “It’s pretty exciting, I think it’s one of the best things that can happen during your career, to be part of such a historic event.
“I passed out of Halton in June, so it was only recently I’ve done all this – practising our arms drill and then also practising the actual sequence of events that are going to happen.
“My mum is really excited, so is my nan, they’re really really happy for me to be doing it. They’re all going to be watching.
“My mum is going to a street party in Birmingham, so they’ll be watching on TV there.”
The RAF will also be taking part in a flypast of three aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – a Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane.
This will be followed by two Typhoons and two Tornado GR4s in a box formation.
Alongside his current RAF Search and Rescue role, Prince William is also Commodore-in-Chief of Submarines, Colonel of the Irish Guards, Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby and Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
