ASTON Villa’s sacked club historian has described his acrimonious fallout with the football club as a “storm in a teacup”.
Lifelong fan John Lerwill, from Hodge Hill, was awarded more than £28,000 in compensation after an employment tribunal found he had been unfairly dismissed for allegedly making “inappropriate” comments on the Heroes & Villains fans’ website about supporters and club colleagues.
Mr Lerwill, 65, said: “There were some things I stated on the Heroes and Villains thread which, in the cold light of day, were probably not best said.
“But, even so, we’re all Villa supporters and we upset one another from time to time. We all get emotional about things we care about.
“Certainly, no harm was meant to individuals nor to the club on my part. It was a storm in a teacup, as so many people have described it.
The club declined to comment.
