Review: Richard Marx, at Birmingham Symphony Hall

RICHARD Marx's first concert in Birmingham in more than 20 years was a casual affair with an acoustic set and lots of chat.

The singer songwriter turned out all that could be expected with pared down versions of his hits including Hazard and Right Here Waiting.

But it was the unexpected that really made this concert.

Such as when Marx unplugged his guitar, walked away from the mic and climbed down into the aisle to serenade the audience.

Or his rendition of Save Me which saw him singing and playing guitar while backing vocals and music were provided by his three sons, all talented musicians, recorded on a giant screen behind him.

The audience were also treated to a new song written that afternoon with support act John Parr which began with the immortal line ‘Three o’clock on a rainy afternoon in Birmingham.’
