1. Three arrested in Small Heath siege drama

THREE youths have been arrested after an attempted burglary which led to armed police storming a Birmingham house.

A crowd of about 500 people watched police gunmen enter the terrace in Charles Road, Small Heath, last night over rumours of a firearm being seen.

Police marksmen trained their rifles on the front of the house for several hours before a number of them entered the building.

The raid happened about four hours after officers were called to reports of a botched break-in, in nearby Summerville Road, at about 3pm. A West Midlands Police spokesman said that a 16-year-old Asian boy and two 14-year-old Asian boys had been arrested after being detained by local people.

3. Birmingham man who hid bullet up his backside jailed for four years

THE bare-faced cheek of it – a crook who hid a bullet up his backside was rumbled when it fell out during a strip search.

Waheed Munir tried to keep the potentially lethal “dum dum” bullet – designed to expand on impact to cause maximum injuries – away from police officers who arrested him after a road crash.

But the 26-year-old’s scheming failed to pay off when it dropped onto the floor of his police station cell during the intimate inspection.

Now Munir, of no fixed address but originally from Small Heath, has been jailed for a total of five-and-a-half years after admitting possessing ammunition, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

4. Trainee teacher's £60,000 car wrecking spree in Kings Norton

A TRAINEE teacher and his accomplice caused almost £60,000-worth of damage to 55 parked cars as they embarked on a drunken “20-minute rampage”.

Chandra Sungum and Lloyd Olson launched their booze-fuelled vandalism spree on the night of the Royal Wedding, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

They used keys to damage the cars, marking an X on the roof of one vehicle and hiding out of sight when drivers passed by so they could continue their “loutish” scheme.

5. Bullring pervert took pictures of girls as young as 12

A PERVERT has been banned from loitering near schools for taking sneaky pictures of girls as young as 12.

Police found images of children going to and from classes on Paul Foote’s mobile phone.

The pictures came to light when the 29-year-old, of Church Road, Smethwick, was caught taking pictures up the skirts of shoppers at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre.

Now Foote has been banned from going within 100 metres of any school or having a camera in public.
