White spirit killer gets 12 years for attack on Wolverhampton businesswoman

A MAN who killed a business colleague by drenching her in white spirit after finding her in bed with his sister’s husband at the Midland restaurant they were renovating has been jailed for 12 years.

Mother-of-one Jenny Lam, aged 38, suffered extensive chemical burns to 75 per cent of her body and slipped into a coma.

She died in October 2004 at a hospital in Tunbridge Wells after five months on a life support machine.

Judge John Wait told 49-year-old Andy Mao: “I have no doubt that Jenny Lam remained tied up while suffering increasing pain as the white spirit burnt her skin and I am confident that you then began to realise the seriousness of what you had done.”

Mao, of Lewisham, South East London, denied manslaughter, but admitted wounding and falsely imprisoning her lover, Ian Vuong, having cut him on the arm with a meat cleaver.

Mao then went on the run and it was seven years before he was arrested after being spotted in April this year by chance by Miss Lam’s son, Stephen, in London.
