Tamworth MP welcomes move to help commuters.

TAMWORTH MP Christopher Pincher has backed the Chancellor’s move to scrap a planned rise in fuel duty.

It comes after George Osborne moved to reduce the financial burden of commuters in his autumn statement by cancelling a planned fuel duty increase of 3p for January.

Mr Pincher said: “In and around Tamworth, many local people rely on their cars to get to work.

“These working people are integral to our economy. I think it is absolutely right the Chancellor has made these decisions that will help local commuters.

“If Labour were still in power and had implemented their last budget, petrol would be 10p higher.

“This second cut in the cost of petrol will save the average household over £100 per year.

“That shows this Government is committed to helping working families while tackling our crippling deficit.”

From August, fuel duty will be 3p higher than now.
