Emma Bradshaw died after Karla Biddle slashed her 56 times with a kitchen knife at the Solihull home of their two-timing boyfriend Ashley Watson on May 14, 2008. Here, Emma's dad, Michael, speaks out for the first time in an interview with Christina Savvas.
THE grieving father of a veterinary nurse stabbed to death by her love rival has spoken publicly of his family’s anguish for the first time – on the eve of what would have been her 34th birthday.
Karla Biddle, a former human resources manager, was jailed for seven years for manslaughter after the 2008 stabbing.
But Emma’s family were left devastated when they were told she was due to be released from prison last month after serving less than three years in prison and was set to reside in south Birmingham.
Their anguish did not stop there. They then learned that pictures of Biddle attending a wedding in the Irish Republic and competing in the Birmingham Half Marathon had been posted on the internet.
The Prison Service were due to investigate whether the killer had breached her licence by leaving the UK to attend the wedding.
Now Emma’s dad Michael Bradshaw, from Sutton Coldfield, has revealed his heartache – and attacked the justice system for the sentence his daughter’s killer received.
Michael, a retired teacher, said: “Christmas is a very bad time of year for our family without Emma. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t think about or miss her.
“Emma loved to travel, she had been everywhere and had friends all over the world. She was a fun, bubbly outgoing person, a free spirit.
“When she came back from travelling across Africa she was determined to get a job as a veterinary nurse, she did all sorts of jobs to earn money to get her through.
“She worked as a receptionist where she met Ashley. She also changed beds in a hotel, she would get out there and do it and that’s what endeared her to so many people.
"And that’s why it’s so painful and sad that this woman ended her life in a brutal way and then only served less than three years behind bars. She has her life back, Emma doesn’t and our lives have been destroyed.”
Emma died aged 30 while she was in a relationship with Mr Watson, who was Biddle’s ex-fiancée. She met him when she worked for Mercedes Benz in Solihull where he was also employed.
She was found bleeding to death in the middle of the road outside Mr Watson’s rented home in Berkeley Road after she ran out to try to get help from neighbours.
