Aston Villa Old Stars to hold football match in memory of Harry Moseley

SOME of Aston Villa’s greatest ever players will be taking part in a Harry Moseley tribute match to keep the brave youngster’s charity work and memory alive.

European Cup winning legends Gordon Cowans, Ken McNaught and Colin Gibson are among those expected to line-up in this weekend’s fundraising game.

The match between Aston Villa Old Stars and a fans XI kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday, January 15, at Sutton Coldfield Town Football Ground, in Coles Lane.

All of the proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK, a cause brave Harry raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for before his tragic death last October.

Harry, who died aged 11, following a long battle with an inoperable brain tumour, is renowned for his Help Harry Help Others campaign.

Despite his own struggle, the Sheldon schoolboy selflessly raised money for charity and awareness of the condition by selling hand-made bracelets.

He earned an army of well-known admirers from the worlds of politics, sport and TV and was honoured with the Britain’s Kindest Kid title by TV channel Five.

Harry’s mum Georgina and dad Darren are hoping to attend to sell the bracelets for charity, while his 14-year-old brother Louis
is set to play a part in the match.

Former Villa defender McNaught, who is the general manager of the Aston Villa Former Players Association, is delighted to support such a worthy cause.

“Young Harry was an inspirational lad who raised a great deal of money for a charity that meant so much to him,” he said.

“It’s wonderful to be playing this match in his honour, to carry on some of his fundraising work and to remember such a brave and generous young man.”

Organisers have already sold almost 750 tickets for the match, but spectators can also pay at the gate on Sunday, with doors opening at 1.30pm.
Admission is £4 adults and £1 under-16s.
