SOME Birmingham residents are still waiting for their Christmas rubbish and recycling to be collected more than two weeks on, it has been revealed.
Councillors told a meeting of Birmingham City Council yesterday they were receiving calls from constituents saying that even now – the second week of January – they still had not had their rubbish collected.
Red-faced council bosses said the delays were due to the authority being “over ambitious” in aiming to make collections as normal over the Bank Holidays.
Coun Neville Summerfield (Con, Brandwood) said the festive period had been literally “rubbish” for households in his Brandwood ward.
“Some residents are still waiting for collection of recycling and for their black bags post Christmas,” he said.
“Should these residents have every right to feel let down by our refuse services?”
He was joined by Coun Marje Bridle (Lab, Shard End), who lives in Sutton Coldfield, who said she had not had a recycling collection for more than a month.
“All we have heard is pathetic excuses from the director and councillor Huxtable. The performance is appalling,” she said.
