Birmingham double murder: Rimvydas Liorancas suspect 'drank and smoked' happily on the night Avtar and Carole Kolar were killed - claim

Rimvydas Liorancas

MURDER suspect Rimvydas Liorancas downed vodka and smoked cigarettes with pals hours after a Birmingham couple were battered to death in their home, it has been claimed.

Sources said the Lithuanian national – the only suspect in the murders of Avtar and Carole Kolar – arrived home at about 9.30pm on January 10, the night the couple were believed to have been killed, with a number of stolen items in his possession. It was claimed Liorancas (court artist’s impression, above) stayed up chatting and drinking with friends but gave no hint of having been involved in their brutal deaths.

A community source said: “He was living with friends and arrived home about 9.30pm with a lot of stuff.

“His friends thought he might have been involved in a burglary but had no idea about anything else. They shared a bottle of vodka and cigarettes and he acted normally.”

It has also emerged a rambling note was discovered in the prison cell where Liorancas was found hanged last Saturday morning. The scrawled note was discovered by prison guards at Woodhill Prison, near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, who tried in vain to resuscitate him.

A close friend of the Liorancas family claimed the note would “explain all”.

In a post on a news website called 15Min, the 39-year-old contributor, from Lithuania’s second city Kaunas, said: “This is my best friend’s brother and he left a letter after his death. I think the letter will explain all. Compassion for my girlfriend and all her family.”
