RESIDENTS in Cannock Chase are being urged to check that their sheds and garages are secure after a series of break-ins.

In a bid to combat the crimewave Cannock Chase Council has joined forces with Staffordshire Police to launch a new initiative to warn thieves to stay away.

As well as increased high visibility police patrols across the district, and handing out crime prevention advice 600 alarms are being given out.

As part of the initiative, SmartWater is also being used in hot spot areas.
