1. Birmingham and Black Country set for more snow as big freeze continues

BIRMINGHAM and the Black Country could again be blanketed by several inches of snow as the stubborn Siberian-style cold snap refuses to move from the region.

A chillingly cold cocktail of freezing temperatures, rain, sleet and snow will be served up over the next few days with snow predicted for tonight and the weekend.

Last night was expected to be the coldest of the winter with temperatures in some exposed areas of the rural Midlands diving to -15C. Birmingham and the Black Country shivered as overnight temperatures plunged to around -5C.

2. Builder stages JCB protest by dumping concrete outside Stechford home

POLICE were called after an angry builder used a JCB to dump concrete outside the property of a Birmingham customer in a bust-up over an unpaid bill.

Richard Lamot smashed down a fence with the digger, before dropping the rubble outside a Stechford house belonging to Ishfaq Ali Hussain.

The landscaper had worked on the property, on the corner of Yardley Fields and Station Road, which is being converted into flats by Mr Hussain.

3. Widow of Birmingham MP fighting for life after suffering head injury

THE widow of former Birmingham MP Sir Anthony Beaumont-Dark was fighting for her life last night after suffering a severe head injury at her £1 million home.

Sheelagh Beaumont-Dark, 76, was discovered at the property in Lady Byron Lane, Knowle, yesterday afternoon.

She was transferred to hospital where she was in a serious condition last night.

4. Birmingham dad claims he was called 'Mug' in Conservative party email

A JOBLESS Birmingham dad in danger of losing his home was allegedly addressed as “Mug Taken In’’ in an email from a Conservative Party official. 

Former Merchant Navy chef Dave Houlden, 61, had contacted the government to ask for help as he struggled to meet mortgage payments after a benefit cut.

But a reply from Tory HQ outlining his complaint had the word ‘‘Mug’’ inserted in the section for his first name – and ‘‘Taken In’’ was in the surname field.

5. Birmingham's lapdancers quitting over recession - claim

BIRMINGHAM’S lapdancers are feeling the squeeze – with claims that hard-up club bosses are keeping half of their night’s takings to help their businesses survive.

One of the glamour girls, 25-year-old Jade, said dancers were walking away from the industry in droves because they were losing so much cash at the end of every shift.

And former Rocket Club boss Allan Sartori said new £10,000-a-year sex entertainment licences and the impact of the downturn were hitting the lap-dancing sector hard.
