Dumpers warned after rubbish fine

FLY-TIPPERS in Redditch have had to pay out more than £200 in costs and fines after they dumped normal household rubbish in the streets.

Officials from the borough council have pledged to investigate any discarded bin bags and track down those responsible.

After the crackdown, Kenneth Taylor, of Arley Close, Church Hill South, pleaded guilty to dumping a large number of wooden planks, which had nails sticking out of them, on a grass verge near his home.

A number of other household items were also left in the street illegally and left overnight, Redditch magistrates heard on January 30.

Taylor was ordered to pay £179 and was given a conditional discharge after earlier failing to pay a £50 penalty fee.

Kelly Eversham, of Haseley Close, Matchborough East, dumped a black bag of household waste on the road near her home in June 2007 and also failed to pay a penalty fee.

Eversham, who did not appear at the court hearing, was fined £100 in her absence and was ordered to pay £151 costs within 28 days.

A spokesperson for Redditch Borough Council said: "Fly-tipping costs taxpayers money.

"All offences of unauthorised rubbish dumping are serious and we are committed to investigating and prosecuting where appropriate.

"Both of these offences were detected by council officers working in the community."

"Although we are able to identify some cases of fly-tipping, we appreciate information from the public, which helps us detect offences."
