Former Redditch Council leader David Cartwright on fraud charges

A FORMER Midland council leader today appeared in court charged with 15 offences of fraud, deception and theft.

David Cartwright , who was Labour leader of Redditch Borough Council until 2005, appeared before Worcester magistrates.

Cartwright, 51, of Donnington Close, Church Hill South, Redditch is charged with 15 offences which were allegedly committed between 1997 and 2005. He did not enter any pleas.

The charges include furnishing false and misleading accounts to the Charities Commission, dishonestly obtaining money via money transfers, three counts of theft and dishonestly furnishing information in relation to accounts.

Cartwright was bailed to appear before Worcester magistrates next month.
