Tribute to tragic Kidderminster father Scott Irwin

THE partner of a Midland man killed in a car smash in Kidderminster today described him as a loving and committed father.

Dad-of-one Scott Irwin, aged 23, of Staite Drive, Cookley, near Kidderminster, was a passenger in a car when it was in collision with a transit van at the junction of Minster Road and Oldington Lane.

He died of his injuries after the smash which happened just after midnight on Monday as he was out with friends.

His partner, Jodie Carroll, aged 22, said the pair were teenage sweethearts who had met at school.

She said Scott, who worked with her as a machine operator at a turf firm in Hartlebury, was extremely popular.

"He had a lot of friends and came from a big family who all loved him. He had two brothers and two sisters."

The couple had been together for eight years and have a two-year-old son Connor. They had lived in Cookley for two years.

Jodie added: "Scott was really fun.

"He loved me and Connor more than anything. Connor was a real daddy's boy and we are both missing him so much."

Scott was a former pupil of St Oswald's First School, Sion Hill Middle School and Wolverley High School.

A 17-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, both from Kidderminster, who were in the back seats of the car are recovering from serious injuries at a critical care ward at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The driver of the car remains in a stable condition at the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch.
